it's more important than that 2007
Is a short film about football and the changes in the social environment that was beginning to happen in Dublin during the years of the so called Celtic Tiger and how those changes affected the lives of communities in specific areas within the city. It consists of animation and real time sequences and represents my attempt to examine how regeneration within a once predominantly working class area can change a community. I used street football as way of showing how the gentrification of an area can sometimes lead to a lack of engagement with the actual place where one lives. As a kid I played football on the streets of Dublin and remembered it as a wonderful way of engaging with the city and my friends and building relationships as I grew up but when I visit my old home place now street games like football are hardly played anymore and there is a sense not belonging or even alienation within the area.
